Around the SL,UT March 4, 2011

March 4, 2011

It’s celebration time! Mardis Gras, St. Patrick’s Day, and time for a fun pub crawl. Where do you find out about these events? It’s all right here! Spread the word, here are the things-to-do in SLC. It’s a brand new, Around the SL,UT.

The Iditarod is a gruelling dogsled race across the unforgiving Alaskan wilderness. It is 1150 miles long, and the record is about nine days. The Urban Iditarod will be a gruelling pub crawl around the unforgiving Salt Lake City urban landscape. It is four and a half miles long, and the record is about ten beers. Get your sled team, costume up, and prepare for one of the funnest pub crawls of the year. It begins at 400 south West Temple (across from the Port-O-Call ruins), and follow the group.

Tuesday, March 8 is Mardis Gras, and even though we’re 1800 miles from New Orleans, there will be a few places to celebrate. The Bayou will be serving Cajun food and Swamp Boogie will be performing. Area 51 will be throwing their party early, having their celebration Saturday, March 5 (ladies free before 10). Then the Utah Arts Festival is throwing their Tardy Mardis Party Saturday, March 12 with casino games, food, and drinks.

KRCL is screening The Future is Unwritten as part of their Music Meets Movies film series. It’s a look at Joe Strummer, the front-man of The Clash and one of the greatest icons of our time. Two screenings, 7 & 9pm on Thursday, March 10. Arrive early to get your tickets, these screenings will sell out. Besides, it’s at Brewvies, so there’s great food and drink to enjoy before, during, and after the film.

St. Patrick’s is coming up, and the St. Patrick’s Day parade is Saturday March 12. It begins 10am and the parade route is right through Gateway. Always a great time, and show your support for our community. Later that night Young Dubliners are at The Depot, 8pm. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door. You can buy tickets at The Depot box office Fridays from 2-6pm, no service fees.
