Occasionally the stars align, and we suddenly find ourselves in one of those strange situations where it seems we’ve travelled through time. This is one of those times. The music lineup for this week has some of the biggest acts of the 80s, and a very familiar act from the 90s. It’s a special edition of Around the SL,UT: 80s music.

Everyone knows him, he’s the king of parody, and tonight Weird Al is in concert at the State Fair Park. Tickets are $29 at the gate (that includes admission to the fair, so get your corn-dog & funnel cake cravings satisfied), show begins at 7:30pm. He has a new album, and is sure to play some of the classics. Everybody polka!

Meanwhile, over at The Depot, we have Psychedelic Furs Tom Tom Club at The Depot. A couple of the most influential bands of their time, back together and are sure to put on a great show. Begins at 8pm (Mon, Sept 12), tickets are $25.

Wednesday, KC & The Sunshine Band are at the State Fair, doing their funky-disco thing free with fair admission. Show is at 7:30pm. But if you’re feeling like a Safety Dance, get your tickets for Men Without Hats at The Complex. Tickets are only $15, show begins at 8pm.

Then Thursday we fast-forward to a group of kids who were born in the 80s, and hit it big in 1996 with that played-so-much hit MMMBop. Yes, Hanson is all grown up and on tour. They’re at The Depot Thursday, September 15, 8pm. Tickets are $30.

They didn’t fit it into this week, but next week Usana Amphitheatre is filled with hair-rock 80s power with Styx & REO Speedwagon, Thursday, September 23. Tickets from $20.
