Lasers, proms, comedy, and a killer week of great local and touring music. That’s what’s happening around Salt Lake this week. Including Record Store Day, when we celebrate the men and women of independent music stores. Check out the activities for Record Store Day here.

Clark Planetarium always has something exciting going on, and now they have premiered their newest attraction. The music of Led Zeppelin accompanied in an original animation and laser show in the dome theater. I got a chance to preview this show, and it is incredible. Shows are nightly at 8pm & 9pm, with an extra 10pm show Thursday-Saturday. Tickets are $8 per person, and worth every penny.

Queer Prom is an incredible event for those 14-20 years old, who may not have been able to have the prom they wanted due to the uptight conservatives who make “the rules.” A night of dancing and celebration in a safe, affirming atmosphere where everyone can bring the date they want. It takes place at the Salt Lake Main Library (210 east 400 south) from 8pm-midnight, Saturday, April 16. Tickets are $10 at the door.

See funny-man, John Hilder, at Wiseguys Trolley Square Sunday, Apr 17. I’ve seen and worked with John a number of times, and he always provides the laughs. Show starts at 7:30pm, tickets only $5.

Tickets to see David Sedaris are nearly sold out. If you don’t know him, he is an incredibly bright and funny humorist, best-selling author, and radio personality. He’ll be at Kingsbury Hall Wednesday, April 20 at 7:30pm, and tickets start at $32.50.

Coming April 28th, a Quiz For a Cause Utah AIDS Foundation fundraiser. Come play an easy-going, pop-culture and random knowledge quiz to raise money for AIDS awareness and research. There will be prizes, including a cash prize for the winning team. $5 donation per player requested. The quiz takes place Thursday, April 28 at Lumpy’s Downtown. First question is at 8pm, but it’s recommended to arrive at 7:30pm to get the best table for your team of up to 6 players.
