Downtown will be full of smoke, music, film, and fun. Or maybe a mountain escape with a taste of Germany is in order this weekend. Whatever you feel up to, it’s happening in SLC this weekend. So let’s check out what’s happening now Around the SL,UT.

Rock N Ribs is an officially sanctioned Kansas City BBQ Society event happening right here in SLC. Gallivan Center will be filled with over 25 competitors serving ribs and other barbecue favorites to the crowd while rocking out with live music all day. Sample plates will be sold for $3, admission is free. Event will run from 2-10pm, Saturday, Aug 20.

The third annual Salt Lake City Film Fest is going on this weekend. Screenings of independent films are taking place at Tower Theatre, Broadway Centre, Brewvies, and at The Post Theatre on the UofU campus. See a great selection of critically acclaimed films that you may not otherwise have a chance to see. Tickets for most screenings are $10, available online or at the venue. It’s already that time to enjoy cool mountain air, music, dancing, bratwurst, and beer. Oktoberfest kicks off this weekend at Snowbird. Every Saturday & Sunday there will be hot German food, and cold German-style beer from noon-6pm. Admission is free.

Speaking of beer, don’t forget next Saturday is City Weekly’s Beer Fest.

Tickets are still available for Brandi Carlile at Red Butte Garden this Sunday. Tickets from $20, show is 7pm.

In pub quiz news: Coming September 20, the next themed quiz is It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia! A quiz on the gang for a big cash prize. Taking place at The Huddle, begins at 8pm, and entry is $5 per player (to provide the cash prize). Also, Geeks Who Drink is adding another night at a great new venue. September 12 is the first night of Monday night quiz at Devil’s Daughter. Great BBQ, cheap drinks, prizes, and laughs.
