Christmas is right around the corner. It shouldn’t be a stressful time, you should relax, and enjoy this holiday. I know there are some who say Jesus is the reason, but really it’s a time for you, Santa, and more excuses to drink warm spiked beverages.

A parade of drunken Santas will be taking over downtown pubs, as it’s time for this year’s Santacon. Join the Clauses and happy elves at Gracie’s tonight at 7pm and have a ho-ho-cheer as the group visits several bars through the night.

If Christmas music is more your cup-o-tea, there are a lot of great shows that can get even the biggest scrooge in the spirit. One Mind Studios presents Christmas Jam at 216 west Paxton Ave (1170 south) this weekend. Several local musicians will be playing and singing their Christmas favorites with a rock-n-roll flavour. Admission is $15 at the door for this 2-hour show. 7pm show Friday, December 16. Shows at 2pm & 6pm Saturday.

Other fun Christmas shows this week:

  • Pianist Jon Schmidt also has two shows this weekend at Kingsbury Hall. Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm, tickets are $18.50.
  • Also, up in Bountiful you can check out Rock the Halls Christmas Concert & fundraiser featuring Melody & Tyler, The Wayne Hoskins Band, Uncle Scam at The Fifth. Show is at 9pm, tickets are $5 or 3 cans of food.
  • Saturday night, head to Park City to see Big Bad Voodoo Daddy – A Swinging Christmas at Eccles Center. Show is 7:30pm, tickets range from $18-65.
  • Holiday Concert featuring Red Rock Rondo & the Salt Lake Symphony is at Libby Gardner Concert Hall (UofU) Saturday night at 7:30pm. Tickets are $10.

  • Monday brings the annual holiday tradition of the Christmas Carole sing-along at Energy Solutions Arena. This event begins at 7pm and is free.

For those who want to get the Christmas spirit frightened into them, The Carnival of Chaos Haunted House presents a Nightmare Before Christmas. Profits of this haunted house will benefit St. Anne’s Homeless Shelter and the Ogden Your Community Connection (YCC), which is a rape and domestic violence shelter. Admission is $12, or bring a donation for the charity for your admission. They will be accepting donations of coats, towels, paper goods, diapers, cleaning supplies, food, and dishes for these charities.
