Don’t let that television keep you captive, get out and enjoy some live entertainment! Here are a few places to head out and enjoy.

Saturday night there are two shows of After Dark at Sugar Space. This variety show features Acro-Yoga, Aerial Dance, Comedy, Samba Fogo dance and drum, and a cash bar. Shows at 8pm and 10:30pm, January 29, tickets are only $12. This will be a great night of entertainment.

The last Monday of each month is a Poetry Slam at Mo’s Neighborhood Grill. Come to compete, or just watch as local lyricists battle for the crowd favor. Begins at 8pm, $5 cover.

Tuesday night (February 1) is An evening with Stephen Sondheim at Kingsbury Hall (7:30pm $20.50+). See the award-winning composer who’s been responsible for some of the most famous musical theater.

The first event of the City Weekly Music Awards is Wednesday, as the top 5 voted DJs will spin-off at W Lounge, February 2. Tickets are only $6, show starts at 9pm. They will name the 2011 Best of Utah DJ.

Friday, Jan 28, Spell Talk, Night Sweats, Ted Dancin at The Complex 8pm $10. Saturday, Little Dragon, Laserfang at Urban Lounge 9pm $13. Up & coming alternative band, Atomic Tom at Kilby Court 7pm $10, Monday. Plain White T’s at In The Venue 6pm $20 on Tuesday. New local alternative band, The Terks Wednesday, Feb 2¬†at Liquid Joe’s 10pm $5. Then prepare yourself for The Reverend’s big show on Thursday, The Reverend Horton Heat at The Depot 8pm $20 at the door, but only $10 in advance.

Coming in February, The Off Broadway Theater will present The Phantom of the OBT beginning February 11. OBT shows are only $16, and always worth your time. You’ll laugh at their original scripts and frequent improvisation at this great Salt Lake institution.
