The holidays are upon us, which means you need to make sure to plan some nights out to keep sane. You may think it’s the time of year when everyone’s too wrapped up with travel and shopping, but there are still plenty of great activities when you need that break from the family and madness. Here are a few quick ideas through the weekend.

Tonight, head to the movies. But make it something truly unique. The Organ Loft is a great unique gem in South Salt Lake where you can enjoy classic entertainment. See An Evening with Buster Keaton at 7:30pm Friday. Accompanied by a live organ player, you get to watch the films the way they’re meant to be seen. Tickets are only $6 for adults, $5 for kids. 3331 South Edison Street (just 1/2 block east of State Street off 3300 south).

The UofU Babcock Theatre presents Hair through Sunday night. See the classic musical of the hippie-culture and sexual revolution. Shows are 7:30pm Friday-Sunday, $23 tickets ($10.50 for U students).

The Salt Lake Jazz Vespers are performing the Music of James Bond at the First Unitarian Church this Sunday, 7:30pm. Admission is free (donations requested).

Next week, a taste of what to do on Thanksgiving, and some shopping ideas that don’t involve cheap junk in giant superstores.

Must hear music:

Friday –  Samuel Smith Band, The Suicycles, Lady Murasaki, Tommy & The High Pilots at Bar Deluxe 9pm $7
Saturday –  Swagger at Piper Down 9pm (no cover if you’re wearing a kilt)
Sunday –  Cory Branan at Kilby Court 7pm $8
Monday – Priory at Kilby Court 7pm $7
Tuesday – Jazz Combos Fall Concert at Libby Gardner Concert Hall 7:30pm $7
Wednesday – Royal Bliss at The Depot 8:30pm $20

It’s the time to say thanks. Share with your friends by pushing the “Like” or “+1” buttons.
