Yes, it’s Halloween weekend, which means there will be costume-parties a-plenty everywhere you go. It’s your last weekend to hit the haunted houses, or catch a scary ghost tour. So here’s a little help to navigate the most frightening of weekends.

Of course, what is Halloween without Rocky Horror Picture Show. The annual event which popularized people talking and throwing things at the movies can be found in SLC at Tower Theatre Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm & 11:30pm, and Monday at 9:30pm. Tickets are $10, and you will want to stop by the theater early to get your tickets. Or if you’re in Ogden, head to Peery’s Egyptian Theatre Friday and Saturday for shows at 8pm, $12.

What is a cover song but an elaborate game of dress-up? Friday night at Urban Lounge is Hardcore Halloween night. They have four local bands all dressed up as three hardcore and alternative bands… and Elliott Smith. Doors open at 9pm, tickets are only $5. Cannons will play Fugazi, Reviver will be Botch, Accidente is Jesus Lizard, and Jesus or Genome will be Elliott Smith.

The Complex is throwing a pair of Halloween parties Saturday Night. Pirates vs Bigfoots is for all ages and begins at 5pm, $8 adults and $5 for kids 13 and under. For the bigger kids, Hal-Ho-Ween Ball at 8pm, $15 cover.

Brewvies is showing Creepshow and AMC’s Walking Dead free on Sunday. Beginning at 5pm, with a Geekshow Podcast Costume Contest between the shows.

If you’re after a haunting experience, there are numerous haunts around SLC this year. Here’s where to find them:

  • Nightmare on 13th (300 west 1300 south) The longest-running haunt in town, this one is a must every year. $20, open 7:30-midnight.
  • Castle of Chaos (120 west 3300 south) In their final year at this location, it has long been a Halloween favorite. $18, open 7-midnight. Tip: take TRAX or park at the TRAX station. Buy the combo pass with the Redwood Road location.
  • Castle of Chaos Redwood Road (5576 south Redwood Rd) A large haunt with multiple themes. $18, open 7-midnight.
  • Fear Factory (666 west 900 south) It’s finally open, just in time. The newest haunt with an impressive facade. Although $25-35 seems a bit steep for a 1st year haunt, & the reviews haven’t been flattering so far.
  • Strangling Brothers Haunted Circus (98 east 13800 south) Another first-year haunt, full of everyone’s favorite: scary clowns. $20-25, open 7:30-midnight)
This week really does have a great lineup of

Must hear music:

Friday –  Peter Wolf Crier, Garden of Arms, Birds & Batteries at Kilby Court 7pm $10
Saturday –  Max Pain & The Groovies, Fox Van Cleef at The Garage 8pm $6
Sunday –  Uh Huh Her, Jarrod Gorbel at Urban Lounge 9pm $15
