Another weekend is upon us, and the eternal question of what to do. Whatever your interest, it’s happening somewhere in SLC. From fashion to comedy, theatre to music, drag to Geena Davis, here is this week’s edition of Around the SL,UT.

Think Salt Lake isn’t fashionable? Well, show up to Fashion Night Out at Gallivan Center tonight at 6pm for a New York style fashion show that will prove you wrong. Eight local retailers displaying works on a high-end runway show, live music, a local’s only designer ally, and a beauty bar.

Then tomorrow night, a different kind of fashion with Miss City Weekly’s Royal Revue at Bar Deluxe. Hosted by Miss City Weekly, Nikki James and Gorgeous Jared, it’s an evening of music, performances, and a hypnotist show with Jake Shannon. It’s a fundraiser for Cause for Paws Utah, so bring extra cash for great raffle prizes from Beehive Cheese, Utah College of Massage Therapy, CJ Fishburn of Cathedral Tattoo, Zu Audio, Lady Cakes,Le Belle Visage Spa, Patiri Photography, and more. Heading to the Downtown Farmers Market Saturday morning will not only get you a great selection of local produce, herbs, and other products, but also a taste of the arts. It’s Performing Arts Day at the Farmers Market (Pioneer Park). Hosted by Emmy-award-winning composer Kurt Bestor, performers from Ririe Woodbury Dance Company, Salt Lake Acting Company, University of Utah Modern Dance, TLC Trio, and Utah Symphony/Utah Opera will provide live outdoor performances, offering sneak previews of their upcoming show seasons. Show from 10am-1pm, market opens at 8pm.

If you need to laugh, Saturday night is the 3rd Annual Battle of the Improvs at The Grand Theatre. And…Go!, HiJinks, Improvables, Jesters Royale, Off the Wall, Quick Wits, Thrillionaires, and ToySoup will square off against each other in a number of games and performances. Show is 7:30pm, tickets are $15.

For more laughs, and a taste of mistery, head to Park City’s Egyptian Theatre for Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps. A great play combining a spy thriller with farcical comedy and ingenious theatrical invention, The 39 Steps is an engaging “Who-Done-It?” based on Alfred Hitchcock’s 1935 film, the play features more than 140 characters brought to life by a cast of just four actors. Shows are Saturday 8pm, and Sunday 6pm. Tickets from $12-30.

Wednesday, September 28, get to know one of Hollywood’s most prolific actresses at An Evening with Geena Davis at Rose Wagner Center. Show begins 7pm, tickets are $50.
