Hello October! As the weather begins cooling, and the leaves start falling, it reminds us its time to start thinking about costumes and candy. Let’s get in the mood for October and Halloween.

Of course, nothing says Halloween like a good horror movie. Unless of course it’s an incredible comedy filled with zombies. Shaun of the Dead shows at Tower Theatre this weekend, Friday & Saturday at 11pm, and Sunday at noon. After you’ve laughed at England’s finest zombie slayers, head over to Brewvies on Monday to see one of the most classic zombie comedies, Return of the Living Dead (9:30pm). This screening is free, so spend your money on beer & food, and don’t forget to tip well.

If you aspire to be a zombie, or perhaps want to be a survivor running away from an army of the undead, register now for the Night of the Running Dead 5K run. A fundraiser for the Huntsman Cancer Institute, zombies will be racing after survivors. Race is October 15.

If eating brains isn’t your fancy, you’re in luck. Saturday afternoon is the Japanese Food Bazaar at the Salt Lake Buddhist Temple (211 west 100 south) from 1-8pm. Explore the beautiful temple, and enjoy the smells and tastes of great food. Admission is free, food items range from $2-8.

What is October without beer & bratwurst? We’re now in the last two weekends of Oktoberfest at Snowbird. Saturday and Sunday from noon-6pm, enjoy German music, dancing, food, and beer in the cool atmosphere of the mountains. Admission is free, and it runs through October 9th.

But, next weekend is Squatters Oktoberfest celebration. Friday & Saturday, October 7-8, enjoy live music, german food, beer, and receive a keepsake mug for only $20. The event takes place both nights from 5pm-1am.

Enjoy Sunday the way the lord intended, by shopping local. This Sunday you can head over to Kilby Court from noon-6pm for Salty Streets Flea Market. A market of local goods, along with music and food. Holy Water Buffalo, Nightsweats, and FolkaDots are performing, admission is free.

Over at the Salt Lake Library, it’s Craft Sabbath. From 1-5 pm you will find many of the SL,UT’s finest artisans displaying their wares for your shopping enjoyment.

Want to fine-tune your cooking knowledge and enjoy great food and gelato? Of course you do, so register for the Beyond Gelato: Fall cooking with Dolcetti Gelato which takes place Wednesday, October 5. Space is very limited, so sign up today!
