“Where cafe meets gourmet” may seem like a cheesy marketing gimmick, until you realize that it’s a perfect description for this quaint diner. Read the descriptions on the menu and you’ll see things are a little different here than your average diner. Taste the food and you’re a fan for life. The meatloaf sandwich proves the old saying that “you need to try mine” is true. Simple food made incredible, from omelettes to prime rib. Then there’s the pie, which sells out every day. Arrive for lunch and watch the pie choices begin to disappear. Great spot for the casual meal.

Atmosphere: Casual diner, right out of the movies. Even the servers fit the stereotype for the perfect diner.

Price: $7-10 per dish

Drinks: Beer and wine

What you need to know: Can be busy, but rarely a wait. Arrive early for pie, and if you want to take one home you need to order the day before.

Location: 68 west 3900 south (take TRAX, it’s right next to the station)

Hours: Mon-Tue 6am-3pm. Wed-Sat 6am-8pm. Sun 7am-3pm.
