There is just too much excitement and buzz happening around SLC this weekend and coming week. We’ve got food trucks from around the country, the big library book sale, open screen for local filmmakers, and so much more. Check it out, and pass this around. Your friends will think you’re some sort of omnipresent deity with this much knowledge of things to do.

The library is having their spring sale, which means you can clean up and stock your bookshelves. It’s time for the Friends of the library book sale, Saturday-Tuesday at the main downtown library. Saturday 7am-6pm, Sunday 1pm-5pm, Monday & Tuesday 9am-9pm.

Food network is rolling into town Saturday with the Great Food Truck Race. Several food trucks have been traveling across the nation, and this weekend they will be set up here, serving up their great food for you. Check out Roxy’s Gourmet Grilled Cheese at Coffee Connection this Sunday from 11am-7pm. Cafe Con Leche will be outside Frida Bistro, follow updates on Frida’s twitter feed. Our very own Chow Truck will also be involved, and helping to host the other participants, keep an eye on their updates. The details of this event will unroll throughout the weekend, so keep an eye on those links, as well as my Twitter and Facebook updates for more info.

Tuesday night, Geeks Who Drink is hosting another Quiz For a Cause at A Bar Named Sue to support Cakewalk vegan bakery. KRCL’s night out is this Wednesday, May 4 at Gracie’s. It’s an after-work event from 5:30-7:30pm, to unwind, enjoy snacks and drinks, and meet new people. Join them for this fun & mellow experience.

All films are eligible for entry and will be picked by random. Submission is $5.00, admission is FREE. This is your chance to have your work seen by an audience on the big screen! Critic’s, SLFS, and audience picks will all appear in December’s year-end “Best Of” festival.

Happy Good Friday! Unlike the historical day, this is a good day, because I’m in Salt Lake City and there is always something fun and affordable to do. Here’s a taste of the great events happening around SLC this week.

Saturday, head to The Red Door for a cool 80s Pop-Art Party. Put on your pegged pants and band buttons, it’s time to celebrate! The incredible Daniel Day Trio will be performing. Cover is only $4, the party is from 9pm – 1am.

For laughs, head to Mo’s Neighborhood Grill to see David Ackerman. He’s one of comedy’s rising stars, and you can see him with locals Christopher Stephenson and Troy Taylor for only $5 at the door. Show starts at 9pm.

Easter Sunday isn’t just for the kids, head to The Garage for a Easter party with great brunch food, drinks, and music. It’s Mr. Jesse Walker’s Easter Funday ‘BUNNY HOP’ from 11am-5pm. Chef Joe DiMeo is up to some great tastes at this new SLC hotspot, at 1199 North Beck Street. Huge patio, and very cozy atmosphere. No cover charge.

Two great free movies this week at Brewvies. Monday is The Big Lebowski at 9:30pm, and Wednesday it’s The Goonies at 8pm. Come out to enjoy great food, drinks, and support Utah’s only cinema pub. Arrive early, as seating is limited. You should spend the evening here anyways, as they have a great atmosphere for dining, and pool tables to enjoy before and after the film.

The Utah AIDS Foundation has teamed up with Geeks Who Drink to host a Quiz for a Cause. It’s a laid-back, fun & humorous pub quiz for prizes. Including, a big cash prize for the winning team. We’ll have prizes from Wasatch Roller Derby, Yelp, and more. Up to 6 people per team, only a $5 donation per player to qualify for the big cash prize. It’s all random, pop-culture, music, and entertainment questions, so don’t worry about being “geek” enough to win. It’s a great time, a great cause, and great drink specials like $3 wells, $2 PBR tallboys, and more. Thursday, April 28 at 8pm. Arrive early for best tables.
